Whites boss Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Tuesday night's swift resumption of the club's Championship promotion quest at home to Sunderland with a question mark over Ethan Ampadu.

Ilia Gruev, Connor Roberts and Willy Gnonto all returned from injuries in Saturday's clash at Coventry City in which a 2-1 defeat knocked Leeds out of the division's automatic promotion places and down to third place.

Gruev started the game upon recovering from an ankle injury and came through 66 minutes before being substituted. By that point, Roberts had already made his return from a muscular injury in being brought on as a half-time substitute.

Gnonto, meanwhile, who had been nursing a hamstring injury, made his earlier than expected return when being brought on from the bench with six minutes left. The returns of Gruev, Roberts and Gnonto left Jamie Shackleton, Pascal Struijk and longer term absentee Stuart Dallas as the only three Leeds players out.

Farke revealed last week that Shackleton had suffered an adductor strain and was facing at least around a fortnight out. But speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Farke said that care has had to be taken with Gnonto and Roberts following their earlier than expected returns and also revealed that Ampadu was a question mark for the Black Cats contest due to illness.

Providing his team news, Farke said: “No additions. There is a question mark behind Ethan Ampadu who is struggling with illness in the last 48 hours.

"He wasn't available to train with us yesterday or some of today so it will be a tight race if he's available. We have a short session tomorrow morning, he would need to be available for this short session in order to be then in the mix. But there's a big doubt behind him.

"Yes, we still have to be a bit careful with Connor Roberts and also Willy Gnonto because it was a bit like a positive surprise that they were in the squad (at Coventry) because the doctor said normally they are just nearly fully fit after this week and then ready for 90 minutes.

"They were just prepared for a short term appearance. Both looked sharp, but also Connor in the end he felt also a bit of reaction in his muscle.

"The last situation for example, he should have taken the corner. He was not sure if he should take the corner - we had a pretty poor corner by the way in the last moment when we sent Illan Meslier up.

"So we took him out of training yesterday, no new injury, just a bit pre-cautious, the same with Willy Gnonto because his muscle was a bit tired.

"I think with them they probably will both be available but at the moment I can't confirm that they are available for more minutes than in the last game.

"I think in the next four or five days we still have to be a bit careful and I just expect them to be really ready, fully ready for 90 minutes if I am honest just for Middlesbrough (next Monday)."

Struijk is out for the season having had surgery to mend fibre cartilage from his groin injury that has kept him out since Boxing Day whilst Dallas remains on the long comeback trail from a femoral fracture.
