Crysencio Summerville bagged an impressive hat-trick on Monday afternoon as Leeds United's Under-23s defeated Burnley 4-1 at the Leyland County Ground.

Sam Greenwood was called into action just 24 hours on from his first team debut while centre-back Charlie Cresswell captained the Whites.

Leeds started on the front foot across the Pennines and it was Greenwood who opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the encounter.

A loose ball fell to the forward inside the box from a corner with the former Arsenal man making no mistake, seeing his low strike creep under goalkeeper Lewis Thomas.

The visitors went close again through Niall Huggins and Bobby Kamwa before Summerville scored twice in the space of six minutes to put Leeds in complete control.

Liam McCarron delivered and his volleyed cross struck a stray Burnley leg, which left the winger to tap home unchallenged from underneath the crossbar.

The 19-year-old then cut in from the right moments later to play a one-two with Stuart McKinstry. Summerville's second pass, which was aimed at Kamwa, fell perfectly back into his path and he made the frozen defence pay.

The Clarets asked tougher questions of the Leeds backline after the break as United were forced into a number of last ditch tackles to keep the hosts at bay.

Cresswell was proving a commanding figure but Burnley got themselves a lifeline from a corner before the hour mark.

Ne-Jai Tucker headed home from close-range with complaints over a foul on United stopper Elia Caprile falling on deaf ears.

Leeds, though, held firm under sustained pressure and completed the scoring in the final minute of normal time to seal all three points.

Substitute Max Dean saw an effort from distance saved but the ball ran free and Summerville pounced to crash home his third of the afternoon.

With the goal, Jackson's men ensured victory and extended their advantage at the top of the league to six points.

Leeds United Under-23s: Caprile, Drameh, Mullen, Kenneh, Cresswell, Huggins, McKinstry, Greenwood (Moore 63'), Summerville, Kamwa, McCarron (Dean 70'). Subs: Van Den Huevel, Allen, Gibbon.
