One of those outings came as a fleeting stoppage time cameo in his side’s 3-0 FA Cup upset against Leeds United back in January.

At the time, his inclusion garnered widespread attention from fans and media outlets alike, and Marcelo Bielsa even went as far as to suggest that his introduction into the game could be seen to make the Whites’ below average performance look even worse.

Speaking after the match earlier in the year, the Argentine said: "I in no way judge if the player came in or whatever his origin is.

"For me, he is a component of the opponent's team and he legitimately occupies that place and he came on like any other team-mate could have come on, that's how I interpret it.

"What I mention is how it was interpreted by the media, to find a way of having an opinion on the game over something that had nothing to do with the football part of the performance - as if the game itself didn't have enough elements to classify our performance as negative."

Wright had only joined Crawley a few weeks prior to that cup shock, and would go on to make just once more appearance for the club, starting a league defeat against Harrogate Town in February. He was taken off at half-time in that match.

The 34-year-old is one of six players who have been let go by the Red Devils now that Crawley’s campaign has come to an end.
