Contrasting fortunes for former Leeds United men as League One and League Two seasons are officially curtailed

League One and League Two clubs separately voted by an overwhelming majority to formally end the 2019/20 season at Tuesday afternoon's vote.

EFL clubs had previously voted 'overwhelmingly' to adopt proposals that would mean divisions would be decided on a points per game basis if seasons were curtailed with promotion and relegation retained and play-offs, involving four teams, played in all circumstances.

League Two clubs had previously indicated their preference for curtailment but following today’s Extraordinary General Meeting, clubs were required to pass a resolution in accordance with Regulation 9A.

As a result, the final League Two standings have now been confirmed meaning that Swindon Town have been confirmed as champions with Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle securing the second and third automatic promotion places to League One.

That means elation for former Whites midfielder Paul Green at Crewe and ex-Leeds defender Scott Wootton at Plymouth.

Cheltenham Town, Exeter City, Colchester United and Northampton Town, meanwhile, will contest the Sky Bet play-offs

But former Whites defender Paudie O'Connor has seen his promotion hopes dashed with Bradford City.

O'Connor left Leeds last summer to join Bradford City on a three-year deal and the Bantams were sat ninth and just four points off the play-offs with nine games left.

Former Whites defender Danny Pugh, now at Port Vale, also misses out with Vale having been eighth and just one point off the play-offs.

At the other end of the table, under the proposals agreed by clubs, the 24th-placed club will be relegated to the National League provided the board receives the necessary assurances that the National League will start season 2020/21.

Due to ongoing disciplinary matters, the final placings cannot yet be confirmed.

Former Whites defender Tyler Denton is now at Stevenage who sit bottom of League Two while former Whites midfielder Toumani Diagouraga is at third-bottom Morecambe.

Stevenage are three points behind second-bottom Macclesfield Town with a game in hand.

And in the tier below, former Leeds trainee Sam Hird is at National League leaders Barrow who are awaiting confirmation of promoted to the EFL.

In League One, Coventry City have been confirmed as Champions with Rotherham United securing the second automatic promotion place to the Championship.

Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Fleetwood Town will contest the play-offs with the schedule to be announced in due course, while Tranmere Rovers, Southend United and Bolton Wanderers will be relegated and start the 2020/21 season in League Two.

Former Whites full-back Lewie Coyle is at Fleetwood Town who sat fifth but only two points off the second automatic promotion spot.

Madger Gomes, meanwhile, is at Doncaster Rovers who were ninth but only five points off the play-offs and with a game in hand.

Former Whites duo Oliver Sarkic and Conor Shaughnessy are also at Burton Albion who were 12th but 11 points off the play-offs.

Eleventh-placed Gillingham - who were eight points off the play-offs - are managed by former Whites boss Steve Evans.

The Championship is to resume on June 20, with front-runners Leeds United in action at Cardiff City behind closed doors a day later.
