Leeds United's Championship promotion rivals Norwich City have appointed former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere as a new first-team coach to supplement the backroom staff at Carrow Road.

Wilshere has left a coaching position within Arsenal's academy setup to move into a first-team role with the Canaries, under the management of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Norwich came from two goals down on Tuesday evening to salvage a draw with Preston North End and have begun the season promisingly, picking up 17 points from their opening 11 matches.

Thorup's men are unbeaten in their last five and appear to have coped well with summer departures of Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara, who accounted for a large portion of the Norfolk side's goals last season.

What has Wilshere had to say about his new role?

Upon his arrival at Norwich, the ex-Arsenal and England midfielder said: “I’m delighted to be joining Norwich City. It is a fantastic opportunity at a very impressive club, and one which has come at the right time to progress my coaching career within a first-team environment.

"When I met Ben [Knapper, sporting director] and Johannes, I was really impressed by their vision and plans for the club. I’ve heard a lot about the environment around the club, and the facilities at the training centre are first class."

Knapper added: “He has developed fantastically over the past couple of years, and we feel this is an exciting next step for both parties. His passion for coaching, and football more broadly, is huge, and he has a natural ability to connect with people.

“In our view, he is one of the brightest and most exciting young coaches in the country."

Leeds welcome Norwich to Elland Road later this season, currently scheduled to be played on January 22, 2025, following the reverse fixture which ended in a 1-1 draw at the beginning of October.
