'Clearly that's impossible' - Graham Potter on his battles with Marcelo Bielsa and Brighton's wins over Leeds United

Graham Potter was quick to play down his role in Brighton's second win of the season over Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United, crediting his players.

The result made it two wins from two for Potter against Leeds, without conceding a goal. But sounding not unlike his opposite number, Potter said the 2-0 win at the Amex wasn't a case of him getting the best of Bielsa, who is someone he looks up to in the game, but a case of his players doing their job.

"It's not like I'm competing against Marcelo Bielsa because clearly that's impossible, with what he's achieved, the influence he's had in the game is amazing," said Potter.

"The players are the ones that do it, they make the decisions, perform, put the effort in. They deserve all the credit. It's not about the coaches."

Potter struggled to put his finger on why Brighton have been able to take six points from a Leeds side who will finish comfortably above them in the Premier League table come the end of the season, but felt they were able to kill the game off today in a way that has eluded them at times during the campaign.

"Two separate games, it's hard to say," he said.

"Sometimes we've also played well in games and not got the result. Today we've managed to play well and get the result. Overall we've matched Leeds in terms of their intensity, how they want to attack, how they want to defend. I keep saying performance wise over the season has been consistently quite good but when you haven't got the results it's hard to argue that strongly. Today was just a high level performance.

"It was well deserved, really good performance that ends in a result so that's great for us. It was important to get the second goal, we've had a lot of times 1-0 up and not managed to get the second one to kill the game off. Overall a fantastic team performance."

Leeds struggled to get much going in the final third, so much so that leading goalscorer Patrick Bamford had no impact whatsoever in the final third.

Potter was delighted with the way Brighton defended, centre-back Lewis Dunk in particular.

"I thought Dunk's performance was sensational," he said.

"I haven't seen him play as well as that but he's consistently played at such a high level. He's led that line and been fantastic for us. Today he was amazing."

Danny Welbeck, the scorer of Brighton's second goal, also came in for praise for the way he turned away from Pascal Struijk and finished with a clinical effort. The striker could have ended the game with another goal or two, Brighton guilty of missing a number of chances. Potter was pleased with their perseverance.

"If everyone's chances went in it would be a bit dull," he said.

"The hardest thing is to put the ball in the net. I thought the way the players kept at it, stuck to what they wanted to do was so, so good. In the end they get their reward."
