Brighton star opens up on dispute with 'super coach' Marcelo Bielsa ahead of Leeds United clash

Brighton star Yves Bissouma has hailed Marcelo Bielsa as a 'super coach' - even if he disagreed with the Argentine at times in Lille.

The 24-year-old was part of Bielsa's squad during his short tenure in charge of the Ligue 1 outfit in 2017.

Bielsa - who arrived at Elland Road in the summer following his dismissal in France - opted to turn Bissouma into a right-back and move him away from his natural position in the centre of midfield.

The Seagulls player has now admitted it was a tough transition to make and one he didn't particularly enjoy, but says he has nothing but admiration for his former boss.

“I respect him a lot, he is a super coach who has done so much in the game, but it was tough for me,” Bissouma told the club's official website.

"I am always happy to play for my team, wherever I am needed, but this was seen as more of a longer-term role by him.

“I didn't see myself in that position and it was something we never agreed on, so it was difficult for me although I always did my best.

"Once I played again in my more natural position, I felt more comfortable on the pitch and got stronger. But every coach has different opinions and I respect all my coaches.

“Bielsa has achieved so much and is now doing so much for Leeds."

Bielsa and Bissouma will be on opposite sides this afternoon when the Whites take on Brighton at the Amex in the Premier League.

United's head coach also reflected on his brief time with the Mali international.

He said: “He was a great player [at Lille] and has confirmed it [in the Premier League]. It's not the same to have potential and to show it.

"When I had the chance to work with him he had a lot of resources and here he has shown them completely. He has gained recognition due to his resources.”
