Brian Deane shares bizarre Leeds story involving Jamie Redknapp, a half-eaten burger, and Robbie Williams

The 52-year-old reflected on an end of season trip that he and his teammates had taken to Marbella back in the ‘90s, and how they had ran into Premier League rivals Liverpool – as well as Take That singer Robbie Williams.

According to Deane, the Whites had finished beneath the Reds that term, but young left-back Sharp was quick to exact some revenge with a prank that left the Anfield midfielder feeling more than a little queasy.

Speaking to the EFL on Twitter, the ex-Elland Road man said: “I’m going to tell you a story about one end of season we had to Marbella, and at the same time, Liverpool were out there. It was when I was at Leeds.

"I think we’d finished fifth that year and Liverpool, I think, had finished above us. They had a very good team at the time – the likes of Jamie Redknapp, Robbie Fowler, Phil Babb – all these kind of lads. I think Robbie Williams was out there as well, he’d gone out with them because some of the guys in that team were his friends.

"I think a lot of the lads had been at the Lineker's Bar when the Liverpool lads were in there and then Gary Kelly and Kevin Sharp had come out and there’s like a burger bar. As the Liverpool boys were walking towards them, Sharpy spots a burger on the floor. He picks it up and pretends to start eating this burger.

"So anyways, Jamie Redknapp comes up and goes: ‘Oh, can I have a bite of your burger mate?’. So Sharpy goes: ‘Yeah, here’. So Jamie takes a bite and says: ‘That’s a blinding burger mate, where did you get it?’, and Sharpy goes: ‘It was there on the floor’. The colour drained out of his face.

"Typical, funny, and I’m not sure I’d have liked to have been on the end of the receiving end of that. I’m sure Jamie took it as it was, a bit of a laugh.”
