Bradford City manager Stuart McCall pleased with Leeds United loanee Bryce Hosannah's 'bright start' at Valley Parade

The 21-year-old defender was one of Bradford's best attacking outlets in their 1-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

He had only returned to training on Monday after overcoming a toe problem and twice came close to claiming his first goal since joining City on loan from Leeds United last month.

Hosannah, deployed in a right wing-back role, skipped past a number of players early in the second half only to have his shot well blocked.

Soon after, he was in again but hit the side netting as he tried to chip the ball over the goalkeeper, although there were loud shouts for a penalty as the youngster looked to be impeded.

“He only actually joined in training on Monday because he’s had a toe problem," said McCall following the Bantams' defeat in Lancashire.

“He showed that he was a big attacking threat for us down the right-hand side, other than putting the ball in the back of the net which his performance merited.

“I thought he really performed well."

Hosannah had played three games for the Whites Under-23s this term before joining Bradford and was a regular for the club's Under-23 side since arriving from Crystal Palace in 2017.

He has played just four times in all competitions for the Bantams this term and McCall is conscious not to overwork the defender.

He added: “We’ve got to be careful with him because he was flat out, back and forth. We need to look at his data.

“We can’t over-push him or anyone because of what’s been happening with playing games Saturday and Tuesday every week.

“He’s started really brightly for us, that’s for sure.”
