Shackleton and James, what are the issues>

“Shackleton has a problem in his Achilles tendon and James has an issue with his adductor.”

Have you looked at bringing back any loan players with the injuries?

“In relation to the incomings and outgoings in the summer, I would like to be precise so you can see my position clear.

“First of all I don’t want to use an excuse with the players that I have. I never said I don’t want players to come in January, as you guys informed I am opposed to it. The only thing I said and I reiterate is that to bring in players they should be better than the ones we already have.

“The club has invested £130m in this squad, I don’t know if they can or can’t invest more. But I’m not in conditions to demand incorporations when the organisations has been so responsible.”

Would you consider recalling a loan player?

“Every player that is on loan that can be recovered and have been manifested in the six months that have passed, if they were similar to the level of the squad at the moment we would see.

“They went on loan and the club understood my idea, the players were in better conditions that the ones we loaned out.

“What we have to verify is if there has been an evolution in them outside of the club.”

How do you deal with the current adversity? Two wins in 10...

“I never thought it was correct to presume that you have fortitude to show with time.

“Of course this moment is the worst of all the moments I have had at Leeds. Of course to lose 7-0 is not just another defeat, you say we have won two in 10 we can also look at those results in a more favourable way.

“Where you cut off the results always shows where the question is going, it’s natural that you do it this way.

“You can also look at it that prior to the defeat against City it is the most productive segment of the season so far and that at Chelsea it was our best performance.

“After 7-0 it is natural to question, it is totally justified. I always think in adversity you have to face difficulties.

“It demands you being full. You have to face it with everything, that’s how I will.”

What has the reaction been to the City defeat? In the squad and your staff...

“Any game that is next is always a possibility to come back and revert to the image of before.”

Arsenal is a tough test...

“They’re one of the important teams in the league. At this moment we are worried about getting back to our best version than our opponents.”

What positives are there at Leeds at the moment for yourself?

“I’m in high spirits. Part of my jobs is to be able to face the most difficult moments. You come out of them correcting things, taking them on board and not delegating responsibility or looking to blame others.

“They are all of the things we try to do.”

Have you discussed any January targets?

“That type of information we only give if we are going to sign a player. What I don’t have any doubts about is that the club will do the maximum they can to resolve the needs.”

You said you would try to understand the City result - what has happened with the players?

“We looked at the difficulties we had in the game and the things we needed to resolve that we couldn’t.

“To summarise we are not better that City, but we can compete against them. For that to happen, the first thing we need to do is make them worse than they are.

“To make them worse we needed them to receive the ball uncomfortably in attack but we didn’t get that.

“We needed our offensive resources to be noticed. We need to give the ball to our forwards from closer but that is necessary that the ball goes up progressively, we didn’t manage to do that.

“The conclusions are that we didn’t manage to weaken their qualities in attack and nor did we manage to show our individual or collective resources.

“After losing a game 7-0, you feel uncomfortable with what you offer. Of course, you feel weakened. It can’t be any other way.”

Is Robin Koch ready to start, or is he likely to be in the squad?

“It’s not an evaluation we have made just yet. Ayling came back to play as a starter after just 45 minutes with the Under-23s.

“Koch has accumulated training sessions that are sufficient.”
