Ben White a Leeds United winner once again with Sky Bet Goal of the Month award

The centre-half won the award for his stunning volley against Charlton Athletic on the final day of the season with 81 per cent of the public vote.

His only goal as a Leeds player and the overwhelming surge of support from Whites online helped him to beat Blackburn Rovers' Adam Armstrong and Cardiff City's Will Vaulks.

White, who was Leeds United's Young Player of the Year and the YEP Player of the Season, said the goal was the icing on the cake on a day that saw him crowned a league champion and get his hands on the Championship trophy.

“I’m delighted to win Goal of the Month," he said.

"This was my only goal of the season on the final game and it was a great moment for me. We went on to lift the Championship trophy that night to end the season on a real high.”

Sky Bet EFL award judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman predicts big things in future for a player who hadn't played as high as the second tier before joining Leeds on loan.

“Ben White’s first goal in the final game of the campaign will live long in the memory for a variety of different reasons," said Goodman.

“The quality of the control and the strike into the top corner marks White out as a truly gifted centre-back, something Leeds fans have grown accustomed to as the season progressed.

“Leeds’ gamble on the 22-year-old has paid off, and his breakthrough season, on loan from Brighton with the Sky Bet Championship title winners, has seen his stock rise astronomically.

“Now one of the hottest young defensive properties in the English game, it seems there may be no limit to how far White can go.”

Leeds still harbour hopes of bringing White back on a permanent deal, but parent club Brighton are yet to show any sign of a willingness to sell. The defender's performances alongside Liam Cooper in the Whites defence made him a player of interest for Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City, but Brighton have said on numerous occasions that he remains part of their plans. White's contract, signed last summer, is up in 2022 and the YEP understands is worth around £6,000 a week to the 22-year-old.
