Douglas is one month into his season-long loan move to Blackburn Rovers with the defender having found game time limited at Leeds since recovering from troubles with injuries following his switch from Wolves in the summer of 2018.

However, Whites head coach Bielsa has always spoken highly of 31-year-old Douglas and his professionalism and Douglas says the fact that Bielsa proved the man to finally take Leeds up out of the Championship clearly highlights that his methods and demands work.

After a 16-year absence, Leeds were finally promoted back to the country's top division this summer as United romped to the Championship title in Bielsa's second season in charge.

Speaking as part of talkSport's Obsessed: Bielsa’s Beautiful Game, feature, Douglas said: "For one, I think a lot of the responsibility and onus gets put on the player because you need to be willing and open-minded for the way Marcelo's philosophy is.

"The player needs to take responsibility to buy into it, otherwise it doesn't work like you have seen with various players.

"I think once you understand his ways and how it's going to work - it is difficult, don't underestimate that for a minute, it is really difficult - but the results are there, with the winning of games and getting promotion.

"So, it works. It works."
