Aston Villa given bad injury news ahead of Leeds United fixture

The latest injury news ahead of Leeds United’s home game with Premier League rivals Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa have been handed yet another major injury concern ahead of Sunday’s visit to Premier League rivals Leeds United.

Unai Emery is already facing a worrying wait to discover whether the likes of Amadou Onana, Lamare Bogarde and Ezri Konsa will be fit to feature at Elland Road - and he will now hope for positive news on the fitness of Matty Cash after Poland manager Paweł Wszołek confirmed the defender had suffered an injury in recent days.

The Poland head coach told TVP Sport ahead of Monday night’s 3-2 in Malta: "Matty Cash's replacement is due to a minor injury. He felt quite a lot of discomfort during training. We don't want to risk the health of the players. Paweł Wszołek can easily replace him in a match like this."

The news will come as a further reason for concern for Villa boss Emery, who has watched on as Onana was ruled out of Belgium’s game against Liechtenstein and Bogarde withdrew from the Netherlands Under-21s squad. That comes on the back of the news that England star Ezri Konsa had picked up a calf injury during the Three Lions 2-0 win against Serbia and was not made available for Sunday’s history-making win in Albania.

Speaking after the former of those two wins, England boss Thomas Tuchel said: “Ezri has a tight calf and couldn’t finish training today. He will get further assessment in London and he’s stayed in London. We think it’s nothing, we don’t even think it’s an injury, but it’s just a discomfort and not worth the risk.

“They were very strong, Ezri in particular in all the matches he’s played, but at the same time he played a lot for Aston Villa. He arrived with a lot of minutes in camp so he was a candidate to maybe get a break. Now he’s taken the break and is forced to take a break, it’s not a problem.”

Villa are definitely without England defender Tyrone Mings and Spain Under-21 star Andres Garcia as both players have been ruled out of the weekend visit to Elland Road as their way to return from long-term injuries continues.
