Both the Premier League and EFL campaigns remain suspended amidst the country's ongoing battle against coronavirus which has the nation on lockdown with strict social distancing measures.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce some sort of lockdown exit plan on Sunday and both the Premier League and EFL have repeatedly stated their intentions to fulfil all remaining fixtures when it is safe to do.

Shearer, though, admits there must be a very real possibility of the remainder of the season being cancelled and the former England striker has questioned the merits of attempting to hand out honours via any method other than the season being properly finished.

Leeds and Premier Division leaders Liverpool were both closing in on potential glory when the English game was stopped because of COVID-19 with Marcelo Bielsa's Whites top of the Championship with nine games left.

Seeking a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004, United hold a seven-point cushion in the division's automatic promotion spots with the Whites one point ahead of second-placed West Brom.

In the Premier, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool need just two more wins to be crowned champions of England for the first time since 1990.

"If it isn’t completed, which still looks very possible, then I can’t see how you can give clubs what they may or may not have won," said Shearer, speaking in his column in The Sun.

"We all agree Liverpool are going to win the league but would they really want to be handed the title?

"There are going to be clubs left feeling hard done by.

"Whether that’s Liverpool not winning the league, Leeds not getting promoted or a team being relegated having had to play their remaining games at a neutral venue, there will be losers to this."
