Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate opted to leave Whites no 9 Bamford out of his Euros squad despite the Whites striker netting 17 goals during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.

Bamford proved the season's second highest scoring Englishman behind only Tottenham's England captain Harry Kane who was selected as one of just two natural centre forward options for the Euros alongside Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But Kane has failed to fire in England's first two games of the summer's major international tournament and the Spurs striker was substituted for a second consecutive game in Friday's goalless draw against Scotland as Manchester United's Marcus Rashford was given a go in the no 9 role.

England's fortunes failed to improve and the omission of Bamford prove a hot topic on social media.

Here are some of the posts that were provided.

"This England team is crying out for one player. Patrick Bamford. Kane has been absolutely abysmal in both games so far, at least Bamford works for the team and causes the defenders to think a bit. Kane has just been standing around offering nothing. #EUROS2020 #ENGSCO #lufc" - Matt Wortley - @mattywortley

"This is why you don’t leave Bamford at home. I’m not comparing him to Kane, but the guy is offering nothing up top today. Doesn’t want the ball, and no urgency. Bamford would be chasing everything down and getting this team moving. #ENGSCO #ENG #LUFC" - Karun Jung - @JournoJung
