Leeds United is famously a difficult club to play for and many signings have been unable to handle those pressures. Whether fighting for a Champions League place or battling to get out of League One, Elland Road is demanding and plenty have fallen short.
A lot of Leeds’ most underwhelming transfers were unfortunate, whether it be due to chronic fitness issues or the churn of manager that offers no stability. Some, however, were quite simply not good enough. Others just couldn’t build a connection with supporters.
With all that in mind, the YEP has taken a look back at 16 Leeds United signings that just didn’t work out, even though some had glistening careers before or after. Take a look below to see who was picked.

13. Ian Poveda
Plenty of excitement behind the winger's arrival from Manchester City in 2020, but it never happened for him in the Premier League. 14. Izzy Brown
Joined Leeds on loan from Chelsea in Bielsa's first window but suffered horrible luck with injuries, playing just one regular-season league game. Thrown on in the dying minutes of Leeds' 4-2 play-off semi-final defeat against Derby County and had his chance to shine, but wasted a late free-kick. | Getty Images

15. Jean-Kevin Augustin
Signed on loan from RB Leipzig after Nketiah's Arsenal recall but played just 48 minutes due to fitness issues. Leeds were eventually ordered to pay more than £40m to the player and Leipzig after being taken to court over their refusal to trigger a permanent clause. | Getty Images

16. Roque Junior
Despite being a World Cup-winning Brazil international, the defender's loan move to Leeds in 2003 did not work out. Sent off in his first game at Elland Road and played just five Premier League games before returning to AC Milan. Photo: Stu Forster/Getty Images

17. Rasmus Kristensen
Arrived at Leeds in 2022 with a 'warrior' reputation but struggled with the physicality and technicality of Premier League football. Left swiftly after relegation in 2023, activating a loan exit clause before joining Eintracht Frankfurt permanently in the summer. | Getty Images

18. Raul Bravo
Another who signed with high expectation, having joined on loan from Real Madrid. Suffered the same fate as Roque Junior, however, with just five league appearances before he was dropped and then sent back to Spain. | Getty Images
