The 27-year-old centre-back was released by Premier Division club Watford last month and is looking to reseruct his career after being sidelined with a serious knee injury.

The Swede made 100 appearances for the Hornets but damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, his meniscus and fractured a bone in March 2015 and has not played competitively since.

The six-foot-two defender would need to pass a medical which would be key to any move but Whites head coach Garry Monk is keen to further strengthen United’s defence and reports in Sweden suggest a move to Leeds is near to completion.

Amidst the departure of star midfielder Lewis Cook to Bournemouth, the Whites have made six signings this summer, including another centre-back, Kyle Bartley, on a season-long loan from Swansea City. Striker Lee Erwin left the club on Saturday for a season-long loan at Oldham Athletic.
