And they were joined by French forward Hadi Sacko, a 22-year-old who Leeds are working to sign on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

Monk has taken a number of development squad players to Ireland including Alex Purver, Eoghan Stokes and Tyler Denton, all of whom have signed new contracts in the past fortnight. Young defender Paul McKay – signed from Doncaster Rovers in January and a regular for the Under-21s last season – also made the trip.

United will train this week in preparation for their first friendly of the summer at Shelbourne in Dublin a week on Wednesday. Monk’s travelling players will then meet Shamrock Rovers on July 16 before flying back to England.
