Leeds United: Whites are missing quartet for Brighton showdown

LEEDS United head coach Garry Monk has no new injury worries ahead of Saturday's Championship showdown with Brighton at Elland Road '“ for which Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips will both be suspended.

Right-back Ayling serves the first match of a two-game ban for picking up his tenth yellow card of the season against QPR last weekend, while midfielder Phillips completes his two-match suspension for receiving his third red card of the season – and second in the Championship – in the 1-1 draw at Fulham.

But young defenders Lewie Coyle and Tyler Denton remain United’s only injuries, with Coyle recovering from a foot injury and Denton having had an operation on his knee.

Monk revealed: “There are no injuries whatsoever, apart from, as before, Lewie Coyle and Tyler Denton.

“Luke and Kalvin will be suspended for the game but everyone else is fully fit. Lewie and Tyler will still be a few weeks. We are looking for hopefully Lewie to maybe be rejoining us after the international break when we come out of it. And Tyler maybe a couple of weeks after that.

But they are progressing nicely in their rehab and we are looking forward to them being back out on the pitches with us.”

Reflecting on Ayling’s two-match ban – which was picked up in the last game before the threshold for yellow cards was raised – Monk reasoned: “It’s a situation that you face throughout a season. We have faced it already – suspensions and injuries is part of a season and you have to be able to deal with that. And I think we have shown in the past that whenever we have faced these situations that we have dealt with it really well.

“I think that comes down to the clarity of the minds of the players that we have worked from day one with. Whoever steps on to that pitch has clarity of what they have to do and how they have to do it and then it’s for us to help them deliver at a high level. It’s another situation that we face that we have already faced before. We are comfortable with that and ready to go at the weekend.”
