Leeds United v Wigan Athletic: Big match preview

Key Battle - Pablo Hernandez v Shaun MacDonald
Wigan are employing MacDonald as their holding midfielder in a 4-1-4-1 formation. He and Hernandez will go head-to-head tonight as Hernandez tries to dictate the game from the number 10 position. MacDonald, who moved to Wigan from Bournemouth this summer, has done a decent job in that role, especially at home, but the Latics are far more porous on the road.
Key Man - Will Grigg
Still on fire, or just about, after five league goals in 12 appearances. The bulk of Wigan’s finishes are going to come from the Northern Ireland international this season but Grigg has drawn a blank in five of his last six outings and three of those fixtures ended in goalless draws. No-one has properly turned Wigan over so far but the fact remains that if Grigg isn’t scoring, they’ve got problems.

Hide AdPhil Hay’s view: “Wigan are yet to win an away game and their concession rate - two goals a game on their travels - has already allowed five clubs to take maximum points from meetings with them. Leeds are definitely light on potency up front but there’s a sudden sense of confidence around matches at Elland Road and while Wigan are unlikely to fold easily, this is a fixture that United should win.”
