But with Lee Johnson’s side having been in the top 6 since September, this Sunday’s game might be a more difficult affair. With that in mind, we look back at the last five meetings between these sides at Elland Road, to give Paul Heckingbottom’s men some inspiration.

Coming off back-to-back defeats, Garry Monk’s Leeds beat Bristol City on Valentines’ Day last year, as United looked like they were closing in on a play-off spot.

Chris Wood scored his 22nd goal of the season just before the half-hour mark, and Pablo Hernandez doubled the lead when his shot deflected past Bristol goalkeeper Fabian Giefer.

Leeds sat back with a two-goal lead and Bristol came close several times, but could only make the breakthrough in the sixth minute of added time through Milan Djuric.

Ross Barkley and Ross McCormack combined for the only goal in this game, the former crossing for the latter to head past a certain Tom Heaton in goal for Bristol City.

Before that, Paddy Kenny in United’s net had to pull off a save from his own player when Sam Byram sliced a cross towards his own goal, but Leeds pulled through for their sixth league home win in a row.

Ross McCormack scored the winner in this game too, as Leeds had to play for the last half hour with 10 men after Patrick Kisnorbo was sent off for a foul on Nicky Maynard.

Maynard missed the resulting penalty which would have put Bristol City ahead after Adam Clayton and Neil Kilkenny both netted in the game’s early stages.

Becchio came on for the last half hour of this game when the match was goalless, and left it at the end of the match having scored a hat-trick.

Robert Snodgrass, a parried Lloyd Sam strike, and on-loan defender George McCartney provided the assists for the Argentinian as he gave Leeds their first win at home since September 25.

The win moved Leeds into the play-off places in the middle of a strong run which saw them reach second place in December, before tailing off and agonisingly dropping out of the top 6 in April.
