Leeds United: Purver joins Guiseley on loan

LEEDS United midfielder Alex Purver has joined Guiseley on loan until January, with head coach Garry Monk admitting player outgoings are inevitable before the end of the month.

Purver joined the club aged six and after progressing through the Whites Academy, the midfielder was involved in several of United’s recent pre-season friendlies.

But the 20-year-old has yet to make a first team outing for United and after failing to make any of Monk’s first team squads so far this season, the youngster has been sent to Nethermoor.

Purver has joined the Lions on loan until January 2 and further Whites departures are imminent before the summer transfer window closes on Wednesday, August 31.

Asked about outgoing players at Thursday afternoon’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Championship trip to Sheffield Wednesday, Monk reasoned: “There’s a certain amount of numbers in the squad that you would like to work with that keeps it competitive and keeps it realistic and gives opportunity for players to have game time to feel involved.

“And then sometimes you have too many and you have to make those decisions which I have already talked about. It’s about getting the right balance.

“I have spoken within the squad and there’s an understanding between myself and the privacy of players where you have to get the balance of the squad right.

“Whoever will need to make way will make way and whoever will come, will come, that’s the same at every club. It happens every single year.

“Being a new manager, you have to make decisions very quickly and you have to assess who you think can help you go forward and who maybe not so much and make those decisions. Those decisions will become clear.”
