Leeds Sunday League: Seacroft secure crown and avenge Sanford Cup setback

Scott Jones’ goal avenged a Sanford Cup final defeat last weekend and completed a worthy league and cup double for Seacroft in the last game of the season at Ironwood View.

JB Celtic were handed the Premier Division crown thanks to a home walkover against third-bottom South Leeds Independent. Main Line Social must settle for second.

In Division One, third-placed Amaranth signed off with a 7-0 win at home to fourth-bottom Oulton Athletic. Josh Milsted, Eddie McNamara, Ryan Henry, Isaac Collier, Scott Biggs, Jordan Riley and Adam Tempest all bagged a goal each.

In Division Two, Bramley Town capped off a top two finish with a 6-3 win against Sporting Pudsey at Hough Side. Their goals came from Lee Wright, Marc Wilson, Rhys Nelson, Richard Manning and Brian Nelson, who scored twice.

Third-placed Millshaw Park Rangers ended on a high note with a 5-3 defeat of fifth-placed Corpus Christi at Neville Road. Rob Smith and Adam Jarrett both nabbed two for Rangers, while Karl Dixon and Liam Jordan got on the scoresheet for the home side.

Seventh-placed Commercial HQ completed a miserable season for bottom club FC West Leeds (Guiseley) with an 8-0 victory at Stanningley Road. Chris Jones and Michael Hardy both helped themselves to hat-tricks for the visitors while Matty Simon and Anthony Coates also notched.

The top two spots went down to the final day in Division Three but Acorn (Bramley) did their job to perfection with a 5-2 win against FC West Leeds (Guiseley) Reserves. They needed three points to guarantee second and got them thanks to Chris Simpson’s brace and further strikes from Matthew Lofthouse, Peter Gittings and Josh Simpson. Halfway needed to win and for Acorn to lose for a sniff. Nonetheless they defeated Wortley Knights 3-1 with goals from Lee Robinson, Adam Pullford and Elliott Heeds.

Horsforth Saints had a mathematical chance going into the final day but results went against them; they went on to win their game against Northern Star 7-2.

In the Leeds Sunday League, West Leeds Wortley bagged the President’s Trophy after a thrilling 3-2 defeat of Championship rivals East Leeds Celtic at Bracken Edge.

Celtic were suffering their third cup final loss of the season, and despite levelling to make it 2-2 in the 90th minute through the second goal of Joe Phillips’ brace. Wortley, though, scored 30 seconds later, with Matthew Wheeldon, Mark Ferguson and Liam Copland their goal-getters.

Treble winners Kirkstall Crusaders bowed out in style with an 8-0 win at home to fifth-placed Halfway House Bramley. Kyle Wilcock hit four while Matin Loveridge and Danny Royd notched braces.

Harehills WMC sealed second spot in the Terry Pears Premier with a 5-3 win at second-bottom East End Park WMC for whom a Terry Tomlinson brace and Paul Sykes strike was in vain. Jonny Archer doubled up for Harehills who also netted through Nathan Abbott, Ricky Smith and Daniel Marcinkowski.
