Leeds Sunday League: Double-chasing Fforde in the driving seat

Chapeltown Fforde Grene put themselves on the brink of a league and cup double after Sunday's 5-1 home win over West Leeds Farnley in the Leeds Sunday League Terry Pears Premier Division.

Leading 2-1 at half-time, the home side were rarely troubled by the bottom-of-the-table visitors and were led by a Keiron Goodison brace.

Semir Ahmed and Leon Ruddock added a goal each for Fforde who also benefited from an own goal.

Luke Henshaw was the Farnley scorer but was unable to prevent a 10th win of the season for Chappy, who are 12 points clear of second-placed East End Park WMC, who have one game in hand.

East End could, technically speaking, draw level with Fforde if they win all four of their remaining fixtures, but one more point from three remaining games would mathematically guarantee Chappy the title.

They also have a goal difference of plus 51 compared to East End’s minus one.

Park were 2-1 home winners over neighbours Harehills WMC on Sunday.

Park led at half-time thanks to a Paul Sykes goal after 10 minutes, but Harehills were level early in the second half with a goal from Krystian Jaworski.

However, a late Paul Baker goal gave the home side the three points.

In the Championship, a rehearsal of President’s Trophy final ended all square – 3-3 between East Leeds Celtic and leaders West Leeds Wortley, who had Jordan Webb, Mark Ferguson and Geordie Rosendale scoring.

The Celtic replies came from Dale Venables, James Banner and a Stephen Johnson penalty.

The two teams will meet again in the President’s Trophy final on Sunday, May 15 at Yorkshire Amateur FC.

In the Wharfedale Triangle League, Crossflatts Village enjoyed a 3-0 victory against Keighley Town in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Joining Crossflatts in this weekend’s final are Yeadon Veterans, who enjoyed an emphatic 6-0 win over FC Cuedos.

In the Premier Division, sixth-placed Sky Bet beat seventh place Shipley Town 2-0 away from home.

In Division One, top side Cullingworth Youth gained a 4-0 victory at Milford to pull nine points clear.

At the wrong end of the table, bottom side Myrtle Park remain on just one point after a 2-1 defeat at home to eighth-placed Cookridge Hall.

Cookridge widened the survival gap with three points between them and ninth-placed Shipley Town Reserves, who suffered a 6-2 defeat at home to Yeadon.

Sixth-placed Armley Rangers beat seventh-placed Aire Valley 3-1 away from home.
