Leeds Sunday League: Chapeltown are reeled in after Hill mount rally

CHAPELTOWN FFORDE Grene's Leeds Sunday League side were denied a victory to end a tumultuous week as Richmond Hill raced back from 3-1 down to secure a 4-4 draw.

Fforde LSL side have now become the club’s flag bearers owing to the first team’s shock departure from the Leeds Combination League of which they were reigning champions.

The LSL side are on course to defend their title but had to settle for a share of the spoils in Sunday’s Terry Pears Premier hosting of third-placed Richmond who refused to lie down.

Jerome Matthews hit a brace for Fforde who were also on target through Hassan Ahmed and Jason Stapleton.

But strikes from Ashley Hubbard, Danny Hewitt, Jason Turner and a last-minute freekick from James Cowlam bagged Richmond a share of the spoils.

Elsewhere in the Terry Pears Premier, East End Park WMC met newcomers West Leeds Farnley for the second week in succession and after a 4-4 last week they were well on top this time to run out 5-1 winners.

They were helped with an own goal to go with efforts from Joel Hutchinson, with a brace, Liam Carney and Andy Lightowler. Gareth Lee netted the consolation goal for Farnley.

In the President’s Trophy, East Leeds Celtic gave up their home tie and switch the tie to opponents Western Juniors ground. Celtic enjoyed their home tie and ran out 4-2 winners. Joe Phillips added another two goals to his seasons tally with other goals coming from Dale Venables and Price Mujuru. Aaron Spink netted both the Western goals.

In The Hope Leeds United Members Cup, Premier Division outfit Harehills WMC ran out comfortable 8-1 winners over Championship opponents and hosts Halfway House Bramley.

Krystian Jaworski led the way for the winners netting a hat trick. Bradley Proctor and Dave Silverwood chipped in with a couple of goals each with Ricky Smith getting the other goal.

Jordan Heyes was on target for Halfway.

Three games survived in the Claro League with Atlanta strengthening their claims for a top-half finish with a 4-0 win at home to Wetherby Athletic in Division One.

Bramham’s promotion-seeking reserves had a fruitful morning at home to Bardsey, cruising to a 7-1 success in Division Two. Kyle MacDonald bagged a brace with Barron Jones, Rich Craven, Davis Pawson, Matt Howgate and Lee Campbell also on target.

Burton Leonard are one place and two points beneath Bramham after edging a 5-3 thriller at FC Harrogate. Dan Collett, Matt Button, Chris Story, Matt Wild and Dan Bell were the scorers in a 5-3 win.
