Leeds Combination League: Five-star Beechwood cut a dash on way to cup final

Beechwood Sundays continue to sweep all before them, booking a place in the LUTY Cup final with a 5-0 defeat of Commercial HQ.

A hat-trick from top scorer Liam Gales blew the opposition away along with goals from Adam McGowan and Lincoln Manz, from the spot. They will face the winner of the other semi-final between Barwick Stallions and Bramley Town.

In the only game that survived the weather in the Jubilee Premier, second-placed hosts Pudsey Liberal Club were turned over 2-0 by Horsforth Fairweather who moved off the bottom of the table as a reult. Fairweather struck through Dave Howarth and Gary Litviniov.

In the Premier, leaders Main Line Social beat Colton 4-1. Andy Colton had two, alongside Adam Fowler and Brad Francis-White, while Eddy Dobson replied for the hosts. Kyle Swithenbank continued his remarkable form in front of goal with another treble in New Parnaby’s 4-2 win against Hare and Hounds. Jamie Davies got Parnaby’s other goal and it was Ricky White and Dane Dewing with the strikes for Hounds, who are cut adrift at the foot of the table.

None of the games in Division One impacted the top of the table but bottom side Original Oak missed their chance to spark a revival in a 4-2 defeat to Amaranth Sundays. Dave Turner, Danny Blackburn, Stephen Gautrey and Josh Milsted notched in the winning cause while Connor Reid’s brace proved in vain.

Elsewhere, Leodis United beat FC Broadway 2-1 thanks to goals from Jake Tate and Lee McKenzie.

With Beechwood in cup action, current Division Two leaders Millshaw Park Rangers passed a tough test of their credentials in beating third-placed East Leeds AFC 4-0. The goals were evenly shared between Martyn Howe, Scott Carter, Isaac Denny and Rob Smith.

The league’s other game saw Waterintobeer dispatch Sporting Pudsey 3-1. Andy Griffin, Baz Arjomandkan and George Wainwright scored for the home side. There was also a home walkover for Bedford Arms Wakefield against Royal Park Leeds. The bottom tier saw the most action, led by Moortown Albion who convincingly beat AFC Elford 7-1. Craig Fish hit five and Liam Fenteman notched a brace, against Rayhaan Pervais’ consolation.

Temple had Daniel Hargreaves’ goal to thank for their fifth point of the season, a 1-1 draw against Republica Internationale that keeps them in touch with fellow strugglers.

Barwick Stallions took their cup form into the league with a 1-0 win over Acorn (Bramley), where Sam Nelson scored the only goal. Wortley Knights defeated FC West Leeds (Guiseley) Reserves 5-3 as Mark Binns and Adam Clarke both scored two and Jamie Rowson got his name on the scoresheet, while Rick Woolin and Chris Sharkey netted for West Leeds.

Halfway beat Moortown Park Rangers Reserves 7-2, with Jordan Clarke’s brace in consolation.
