Guiseley had the first opportunity of the match when Danny Lowe found Liam Dickinson who had the space to have a shot, but fired wide.

Dover started to take control of possession and were creating chances and they soon took the lead when Ricky Miller’s pass found Stefan Payne who was able to loft the ball over Guiseley keeper Steven Drench.

Things went from bad to worse for the Lions just moments later when they were reduced to 10 men after Will Hatfield was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Ricky Modeste.

The second half saw the visitors continue to threaten, but Guiseley also had a great chance to get the equalizer when James Hurst’s long-range effort tested keeper Mitch Walker.

Dover should have doubled their lead when Miller was played through on goal, but he was unable to connect with the ball properly.

Dover were now playing on the counter and soon got the crucial second goal when Miller flicked the ball through to Nicky Deverdics who calmly finished.

Hurst had another good effort on target which forced Walker into a smart save as Guiseley tried to get back into the match.

But it was Payne who wrapped up the win for Athletic when he capitalised on a mix-up between Lions pair Drench and Lowe and he was there to tap the ball into the back of the net.
