And after the win joint-manager Russ O’Neill beamed: “It was a really pleasing performance and victory, to fall behind and come back and win, showed the character we have, all in all this is a really pleasing day. We can take this and see all the positives and use that moving forward.”

It was a fast-paced start, with end-to-end action in both boxes, first Guiseley’s Kaine Felix through on goal but had his effort well blocked by a number of Southport players, then the visitors had an opportunity soon afterwards, Connor Woods putting in a cross that went just above a diving George Newell, who looked bound to score.

The Sandgrounders took the lead with 10 minutes gone. A looping cross found Newell who was left unmarked, and he placed his header into the bottom left-hand corner.

The next chance saw the scores drawn level when, after good work by Felix, a cross found Jon Wafula who had a free header to make it 1-1.

Guiseley’s Nathan Newall surged into the area and produced a fine effort towards the top corner, Southport keeper Daniel Hanford doing well to get a hand on the shot to palm it over.

Guiseley took the lead just after the break. Kaine Felix delivered a low pass across the area and Josh Parsons - on his home debut - fired a shot into the bottom corner.

Opportunities started to become less frequent, with Connor Woods going close after being fed through on goal, but it was straight at Brad Wade.

Guiseley wrapped up the win in style, however, when the impressive Kaine Felix turned his defender three times before firing an effort past Hanford.

The Lions added some gloss to the scoreline with Mbeka scoring from the spot after Felix was fouled, while Southport got one back in added time with Marcus Carver scoring a tap-in.

Guiseley are back in action against Chorley in the FA Trophy tomorrow.

Robbie Tinkler was also on hand to block a goal-bound Stephen Thompson effort at the other end, but nobody in the home team could prevent Taylor heading in from a corner at the far post.

The Minsternen might still have gone on to take maximum points, but Woods thudded a header against the bar.

Ex-York attacker Kaine Felix scored and claimed three assists as Farsley Celtic beat Southport 4-2 to end a run of four straight league defeats at home George Newell headed Southport in front, but Jonathan Wafula levelled after also rising highest to meet a Felix cross.

Mark Bower’s men reduced the deficit after Brad Dockerty raced on to Lewis Knight’s pass, but Osborne rattled a 20-yard effort into the top corner and a miserable afternoon was compounded when Jake Hibbs was sent off in the 90th minute following a high challenge on Kaiman Anderson.
