YORKSHIRE today maintained their inexorable march towards the County Championship title.

The champions drew against Sussex at Hove to move ever closer to the coveted prize.

Rain washed out the final day at the County Ground, denying Yorkshire a seventh successive Championship win.

It would have been the first time the club had achieved that since 1946, but it is set to make little difference to the destiny of the trophy.

A draw was a fair result in the end after Yorkshire scored 494, Sussex replying with 493-7.

Yorkshire return to Championship action against Somerset at Headingley tomorrow week and look likely to clinch the title in their subsequent fixture against closest rivals Middlesex at Lord’s.

Yorkshire’s next game is on Thursday when they play Essex at Chelmsford in the quarter-finals of the Royal London Cup.
