Champion Cammish aiming for glory on two fronts this season

Runway Formula Ford 2013 winner Cammish added another title to his impressive haul last year when claiming the Porsche Carrera Cup GB title for Redline Racing and one year later the Morley ace is back for more.

The defence of his title begins with rounds one and two at Brands Hatch this weekend and Cammish will also compete on a European front this year including in the Porsche Carrera Supercup that is a support series for Formula One.

In both, the naturally talented driver hopes to put himself in the shop window for a GT drive in 2017 – with Cammish also determined to retain the title which he landed by 98 points ahead of runner-up Michael Meadows last year.

Cammish finished first or second in every race last year – enjoying 11 victories in the process and knows repeating that level of performance will take some doing.

Yet the 26-year-old is already renowned for breaking records and will certainly be giving it a good try.

“My aim for this season is to retain my British championship,” said Cammish. “It will be tough as again the championship is strong but I start from a strong position.

“It will be tough to have a year as good as 2015 as it was really quite extraordinary, although that won’t stop me trying.

“I knew I was coming back to the series in October.

“My primary sponsor Nationwide enjoyed the season and wanted to continue in 2016.

“I was always staying with Redline Racing too which was my team from last year.

“The plan is to race the British series alongside some European racing whether that be Supercup – the series that follows F1, or German, all in the same type of car I race in the UK.

“It’s a good programme for me as it means I get a lot of seat time which is important and I get chance to go up against the best in Europe. I hope in Europe I can consistently fight in the top six and get my name in the frame for some GT opportunities in 2017.”

Meanwhile, Leeds driving ace Sam Tordoff begins his quest to build on last year’s sixth-placed finish in The British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch Indy this weekend. Tordoff again races for Team JCT600 with GardX and is joined by team-mates Robert Collard and Jack Goff.
