Aire-Wharfe League: All-rounder Brook topples champions

’Shaw put their visitors into bat but top three Brook (41), Charles Davy (81) and Daniel Revis (51) shone before further strong contributions from Nicky Bulcock (41) and Redmond Bolton (44) helped Burley to 310-7.

Peter Hotchkiss tried his best to check the momentum by taking 5-64 but his efforts were then bettered by Brook, who snared 5-11 from 8.2 overs as ’Shaw were skittled for 173, Oliver Hotchkiss top-scoring with 44.

Burley are 12 points behind leaders Otley, who recorded a four-wicket triumph against third-placed visitors Rawdon, who have fallen behind the pace as a result.

Rawdon opted to bat first but Billy Hyde took 5-28 as the visitors were kept to 197-9 with George Myers (33), Jake Hodges (58) and Ricky Halloran (33) the main contributors.

Marcus Berryman hit back by capturing 4-66 but Otley savoured their 11th league win of the season by reaching 200-6 with the partnership between Alex Atkinson (46) and Berryman (42) proving important before James Davies added an unbeaten 49.

Rawdon are 27 points behind second-placed Burley and 14 ahead of fourth-placed Horsforth, who enjoyed a five-wicket win at third-bottom Pool.

Horfsorth put their hosts into bat with Ryan Sharrocks (5-36) and Alex Myers (3-42) causing plenty of problems to send Pool packing for 157 as only Will Cooper (38) passed 30.

Opener Ben Heritage (83) then led from the front for Horsforth, who eased to 160-5 helped also by the late partnership of Sharrocks (31) and Sajad Ali (20no).

David Hardcastle excelled with the willow as Bilton kicked 31 points clear of the drop zone by edging a nine-run win at Guiseley, who remain rooted to the foot of the division.

Mustahsan Ali Shah made 63 before Hardcastle remained unbeaten on 86 as Bilton posted a target of 255-7 after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Guiseley’s Javed Slater had taken 3-22 and his side then made a decent attempt at the run chase thanks to good knocks from Heynrych Nel (34), Michael Truswell (64) and Joe Fisher (52no) but ultimately fell short at 246-8.

Bilton are only seven points below eighth-placed Follifoot, who suffered an 86-run loss in a high-scoring game at home to Adel, who sit sixth.

Follifoot put Adel into bat but Arjun Ramkumar pummelled 78 before the real star of the innings emerged as captain David Foster smashed 17 fours and three sixes during his knock of 122. Foster was eventually dismissed by Alex Fox as part of his yield of 4-114 but Adel’s Samuel O’Sullivan proved the day’s best bowler as he took a crucial 5-67 in reply.

O’Sullvan was unable to remove Follifoot’s Nick Robinson, who blasted an unbeaten 133 that included 19 fours and four sixes, but he was left high and dry as his side were kept to 252-8 with Sam Baxter (3-35) removing another danger man in Cameron Martin (47).

Adel are level on points with fifth-placed Ilkley, who bagged a one-wicket triumph at North Leeds, who are down to seventh.

Defeat was harsh on North Leeds batsman Taran Chana, who cracked the day’s highest score with an unbeaten innings of 140 that included seven sixes and 15 fours.

Nuaman Khan (37) and Dominic Cowley (40) offered good support as North Leeds set a target of 245-5 after opting to bat.

Ilkley squeezed home by reaching 249-9 with Nick Cockroft unbeaten on 84.

Captain William Spivey (34) also Oscar Forster (34) made telling contributions before a late 53 from Dave Pennett proved crucial despite the efforts of bowlers Farhan Khan (3-73) and Adam Copley (3-28).
