Try the city’s best Sunday Feast at authentic city centre south Indian restaurant with rooftop terrace

Uyare, based in Leeds’ flourishing Victoria Gate area, offers a seven-course Sunday feast that is drawing in the crowds – here’s what you need to know.
The new eatery is very different to the highly-respected Tharavadu restaurant, which has garnered a loyal customer base since being launched by five friends and their family 12 years ago.
It’s the same incredible food and service which made Tharavadu a favourite in the city, and it’s still an affordable treat, but this extra-special location takes the whole experience to a new level.
Viewed by Siby and his fellow directors as an expansion of the business, the new premises undoubtedly has the wow factor with its stunning rooftop terrace and attractive 150-cover restaurant serving authentic south Indian food.
An experience to remember
The close-knit team behind the new venture stays true to its values of making every dining experience, whether formal or more casual, a special event that diners will want to repeat.
“At Tharavadu, we’ve created a community where people love to come and chat to us about their families and what’s happened in their day,” explained Siby.
“It’s very homely and we have groups of retired friends for example who always visit at the same time and have come to feel more like family to us than customers. We very much value those relationships and all our staff are trained to use the personal touch and create that special feeling.”

Who says there’s no such thing as a Sunday Feast in Kerala?
Inspired by the Syrian Christian tradition of Theenmura, Uyare’s seven-course Sunday Feast is a curated "Sunday story" that transforms a family ritual into a memorable rooftop dining experience.
In Syrian Christian tradition, it is more than just a meal; it is a celebration and a gathering of stories usually held on Sundays or special occasions.
This £45 journey begins with ‘Blessing in a Glass’, a pairing of homemade ruby-red wine and spiced fruit cake, before moving into the Opening Offering of crisp beef cutlets with sharp onion-vinegar challas.
Next up is a fiery Chicken Rasam and the Sacred Pair of lace-edged appams with egg roast. Then diners are served the mouth-watering Pearls of the Backwaters, featuring prawns bathed in coconut cream.
The Ancestor’s Feast serves as the banquet's crown jewel, centering on Kerala Paratha surrounded by duck mappas, beef fry, mango pulissery, fish moilee, and golden chicken fry.
And to conclude, the Sweet Beyond Worlds course offers a harmony of slow-cooked rice payasam and bright mango ice cream.

City centre location at reasonable prices
Uyare offers a different experience to its sister restaurant but guests might be pleasantly surprised that, despite its prime location, the bar and restaurant prices are not unlike those at Tharavudu.
“A pint of beer costs exactly the same at both restaurants and we try hard to give people value so it’s not a case of a premium location and premium prices,” said Siby.
Indeed the delicious-sounding business lunch offers dishes including traditional curries, chutney, pickle, pappadam, rice and bread with prices starting at £12.50 for a vegetarian option, £13.50 for chicken and £14.50 for lamb. An extensive Kerala Tapas small plates menu is also available at lunchtime with Masala fried cauliflower costing just £4 and most curry dishes priced at less than £10.
Ideal for special occasions
When it comes to celebrating special occasions at Uyare, the spectacular setting is hard to beat and staff make sure that each experience is one to remember.
Guests can linger over pre- or post-dinner drinks in the attractive 360-degree bar which offers an extensive wine selection and a tempting choice of up to 20 cocktails. In good weather they can also enjoy impressive views of Leeds from the rooftop terrace.
