This gallery rewinds to 1960 and showcases shops, pubs and fish and chips shops as well as street scenes featuring children playing cricket in the road and others dressed for a game of 'cow-boys'. The photos are published courtesy of West Yorkshire Archive Service, which collects and looks after the unique documentary heritage of the region dating from the 12th century to the present day - more than 800 years of local history. It also runs Catablogue, an online blog dedicated to preserving the past, serving the present and protecting the future. 31. Woodhouse in 1960
On the left is number 5 Willow Grove Road, then the large building is number 7, Willow Grove Hall. This was used as a dance academy by John Taylor, professor of dancing, from around 1866 onwards, though it was renumbered during this time, presumably as other houses were built around it; it was originally no. 1 Willow Grove Road, then no. 3, before becoming no. 7. Between 1906 - 1927 Cecil H. Taylor was teaching there; by 1932 the Taylors are no longer listed there but a Miss Cecily Taylor was teaching dance at an address on Central Road. | West Yorkshire Archive Service Photo: West Yorkshire Archive Service
