They were taken by Swiss photographer Eric Jaquier around Leeds - although the exact location is unknown - during 1969. In the months he spent in the city, Eric got a job as a door to door brush salesman, and as he walked the streets, he found his surroundings fascinating. The then 23 year old budding street photographer and photojournalist carried his Nikon camera with him, and captured scenes from everyday life as he went. Although Eric thought there was perhaps a ”sadness and greyness” to the city, he found the rows of terraced houses and smoky chimneys to be, in a way exotic, compared to his own home at the foot of the Alps. He also found the people around the city to be warm and welcoming. Eric has selected this group of previously unpublished photos from his archive, themed on what for most of us, was our very first mode of transport. If readers can identify any of the people or locations, Eric would be happy to know, and hopes the images might re-kindle memories and stimulate discussion.
