They span three years - from 1970 through to 1973 - although the exact date of each photo is unknown. The gallery features a vast array of city centre landmarks from Quarry Hill Flats and the Merrion Centre through to Leeds City Station, City Square, Vicar Lane, Park Row, The Headrow and Briggate which at the time boasted a subway. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks. Looking north along Briggate from the junction with Boar Lane (left) and Duncan Street (right). Saxone shoes on the left had occupied this spot since around 1908; Saxone Corner, as it was known, had become a popular meeting place, though this 1880s building had replaced the old 19th century one after Boar Lane had been widened. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net

Barclays Bank is also on this side of the road, while on the opposite side are the National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net
