Swarliffe in the early 2000s: When Langbar Towers, Farndale Court and Brayton Grange came crashing down

Another one bites and another one bites, another bites the dust. Ten blocks of flats on the Swarcliffe estate were demolished in the 2000s as part of a major redevelopment scheme for the community. They included Langbar Towers, Farndale Court and Brayton Grange, which at the time of demolition had only five residents. Locals come together to watch as Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn pressed the button on the demolition. These photos showcase the demolition efforts and also highlight other stories making the news around the area during the first three years of the new millennium. The images are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
