This is public laundry Armley Wash-House which provided residents with access to washing and drying machines, including a mangle for pressing. It had operated since 1932 yet had been earmarked the closure when this photo was taken in 1976. It would close the following year despite public opposition. The photo is one of 14 plucked from the YEP archive charting life around the suburb during the decade. Corner shops, pubs and well-travelled streets are all featured which are sure to evoke memories for a generation of people who called LS12 home back in the day.
