These wonderful photos chart a year in the life of your Leeds at the dawn of a new decade for the city and its residents. They turn back the clock to 1980 and bring into focus a changing face of the city. Stories making the news headlines are featured as well as memories from around the city suburbs with Kirkstall, Horsforth, Scholes, Hunslet, Chapeltown, Headingley, Meanwood, Boston Spa and Woodhouse Moor all featured. The images are a mix from the Yorkshire Evening Post archive, some of which have been digitised for the first time, and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks. Proud members of Lewis's 'Fells Wargo Railway Co.' (A humorous play on words with reference to 'Wells Fargo', of course). They pose in their colourful costumes in front of the spectacular decorated steam engine of the American West. This was Lewis's entry to the 7th Lord Mayor's Parade in June 1980 for which it won Best Overall Entry.
