Residents living on the traffic plagued Selby Road Sutton estate carried out their own vehicle survey in November 1992 because of safety fears owing to hundreds of cars and lorries tearing through the rat run streets every few hours. Tenants say they were sick of living in fear over accidents and had drawn up a detailed plan to rid the estate of the problem. A newly-formed tenants' association intended to hand its written proposals for traffic calming to Leeds City Council engineers at a public meeting. "The main trouble is along Carden Avenue and Kyffin Avenue," said tenants' chairman Derek Cartwright. ""Hundreds of cars and lorries cut through here that could easily take alternative routes and we are willing to talk to the engineers to explain this." | YPN Photo: YPN
