This gallery charting a year in the life of Leeds in the 1980s takes you inside one of the city's arcades of attraction. The photo takes you inside County Arcade looking in the direction of Vicar Laneat a time when it was possible to see many fine details such as the ornate cast iron first floor balconies and the columns and pilasters of Sienna marble. Shops in focus include Saltaire Galleries, Waynes shoe shop, Acropolis Coffee Lounge and, at the right edge, Walco Footwear, luggage and leathergoods. This was 1982 and the photo is one of 19 memories charting the year. Other city centre landmarks are featured as well as memories from around the suburbs with Pudsey, Roundhay, Gipton, Hunslet and Armley all featured. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
