This is Maria von Trapp who was the stepmother and matriarch of the Trapp Family. She wrote the memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, which was published in 1949 and was the inspiration for the 1956 West German film The Trapp Family, which in turn inspired the 1959 Broadway musical The Sound of Music and its 1965 film version. This photo was taken during a visit to Leeds in 1950 - the reason of which is unknown - and is one of 12 charting a year of memories around the city. City centre landmarks are featured as well as memories from the suburbs with Kippax, Armley and Kirkstall all in focus. The images are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
