This gallery aims to capture the spirit of Christmas around Leeds city centre in the 1960s

They showcase how the beating heart of Leeds came alive in the run up to the festive season during a decade in which must-have presents included Barbie's Dream House, easy bake oven, Wham-O Super Ball, and Hot Wheels. Singles which made it to the top of the Christmas charts featured Moon River by Danny Williams, Return To Sender by Elvis Presley and four songs by The Beatles including I Want To Hold Your Hand, Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out and Hello, Goodbye. The images are a mix from the YEP archive,, West Yorkshire Archive Service and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
