Instagram fans pick their favourite famous homes
Palaces, castles, country manors ... Britain is brimming with famous homes that people love to visit and photograph.
Buckingham Palace attracts millions of visitors a year and has racked up 1,245,968 posts on Instagram.
Another royal residence, Kensington Palace, comes in at number three on the list with 360,159 hashtags. Kensington Palace has been home to many well-known royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, who live there currently.
Runner-up is the Tower of London, with 582,121 hashtags, no longer a royal residence but still home to Yeoman warders (Beefeaters) who guard its treasures.
Outside of London, popular homes that made the top ten list included Windsor Castle, which is often used by Queen Elizabeth II as a weekend home. With 344,279 posts the castle ranked in fourth place - the highest of any other stately home located outside of the nation’s capital city.
Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, the stately home that has featured in a number of TV shows and films including Pride and Prejudice, The Crown and Peaky Blinders also made the top ten list with 96,863 posts on Instagram.
Other visitor destinations that made the top ten were Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, St Michael’s Mount and Leeds Castle.
Chris King, head of home insurance at comparethemarket.com, website that commissioned the study, said: “Great Britain is home to some of the world’s most stunning stately homes and castles, and a visit to one of these beautiful, historic homes makes for a great day out.”
