Yorkshire students turn models for top fashion photographer

School children from across Yorkshire become models for a top fashion photographer in a new exhibition at The Hepworth Wakefield.

Photographer Jamie Hawkesworth - who has worked with international fashion brands including JW Anderson, Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu - snapped 123 children from Wakefield College, Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy and Cundall Manor in York for ‘Disobedient Bodies: JW Anderson curates The Hepworth Wakefield’.

Sarah Squires, course lecturer, Wakefield College, said: “Staff and students had an amazing morning and we are grateful for this opportunity. The students have been so inspired. Jamie and his team and everyone at The Hepworth made us feel so welcome, giving the shyest and most unconfident students the biggest confidence boost. Every single student took away something rewarding from the morning at the Hepworth, it was an excellent experience for them to not only see a fashion shoot by an internationally renowned photographer take place, but to actually be part of it.”

Stephen Foster, assistant principal of Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy, said: “We are delighted to be once more taking part in a Hepworth linked exhibition. The group of students who attended the fashion shoot found working with Jamie Hawkesworth very exciting and fascinating in terms of the process and the work produced. It has inspired them to create their own work back at HACA. Opportunities such as afforded by the Hepworth enable schools to contribute to high quality and high profile events and the students are all excited to see if they have made it into the exhibition.”

Disobedient Bodies: JW Anderson curates The Hepworth Wakefield is on display from 18 March to 18 June 2017
