Yorkshire nostalgia: For crying out loud, town cryer marks Her Majesty's 90th birthday

History was made this week as the Queen celebrated her 90th birthday and while the country as a whole has made a big noise about the occasion, it's probably fair to say that no other individual was louder than Yorkshire's very own David Hinde, otherwise known as the Bellman of Bridlington and its town cryer.

David, 59, who stands 5ft 10, made a proclamation at the Bayle Gate on Thursday on behalf of The Bridlington Old Town Association and the people of Bridlington, sending greetings and best wishes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The proclamation read: “Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! In the shadow of this magnificent ancient Baylegate here in Bridlington old town, we gather to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday!

“We congratulate Her Majesty and send her all our good wishes for this important day and thank her for her continued dedication to the country and the Commonwealth!

“Happy 90th birthday Your Majesty! Long may you continue to reign over us! God bless and God save The Queen! Three cheers for her majesty! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!”

David, who has become a celebrity in his own right, will also be assisting the Mayor Of Snaith & Cowick, Councillor Stephen Jones with his St George’s Day Celebrations at Snaith Priory Church this evening.

David also won the Mayor Of Newcastle Under Lyme’s Inaugral Town Crier Competition on Saturday and he still holds the record of the world’s loudest recorded town crier (114.8 decibels) - he is pictured above in new regalia, made of the finest Yorkshire Wool Pilot Cloth. David, who runs his own media services company DH Media, lives in Bempton on the Flamborough coast with partner Ann and their four daughters.

He even appeared in the recent Dads Army movie.
