Niki’s mum Andrea Rhodes, who nominated the York-based team, said: “It takes a special kind of courage to row the Atlantic when you are in your forties and all for charity.”

Speaking at an event in March that marked their safe return to the White Rose county after completing the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of the Welcome to Yorkshire tourism agency, said what they had achieved represented ‘Yorkshire’ in every way,

He said: “They have grit, determination and are absolutely bonkers. They are fantastic ambassadors for the county.”
