IT IS tremendous news that 1,300 grandstand tickets have sold out for the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon in Leeds on June 12.

And it is even better news that spectators can watch for free if they line the route.

The race will see triathletes swim Roundhay’s Waterloo Lake before a cycle ride through Roundhay, Moortown, Meanwood, Weetwood, Headingley and Woodhouse, followed by a 10km run. Organisers say they hope Leeds will come out in force to cheer on the competitors. We are confident their wishes will be fulfilled and that our city’s sports fans will show their true mettle.
