So the fare increase from 50p to £1 will be a blow for many who can least afford such a steep rise.

The operator First Leeds maintains that such an increase will give the shuttle link a long-term future.

To be fair to the operator, standard single-deckers are being launched and the routes are being tweaked and expanded.

While people will be unhappy at having to pay more, we will be watching to make sure this service is maintained.
