YEP says: Husband Brendan helps make sure Jo's legacy will last

JO COX's strength of character was well-known. It was well illustrated during her all-too-short term as an MP. Friends and opponents have been genuinely united in singing her praises since last Thursday's tragedy.

What was perhaps less well known was that her husband Brendan is made of stern stuff, too.

He displayed that with a televised interview. He put his own sadness to one side to outline his thoughts in a measured tone to ensure his late wife’s political legacy is remembered.

It was an emotional interview, of course. But he was determined to get his message across which he did superbly.

Speaking on the eve of what would have been her 42nd birthday, he said a fitting tribute to his wife would be that the next MP for Batley and Spen is a woman. If elected, they would become the 100th female Labour MP.

Coming three days after Jo’s sister Kim delivered an equally powerful message during her speech in Birstall, it is easy to see the roots of Jo’s passion and commitment.

Jo was already proud of her family.

She would be even more proud now.
