YEP says: Credit to Armley's Coun Lowe - a true public servant

ARmley owes a debt of gratitude to Alison Lowe, the councillor who will step down in May after serving the ward since 1990.

Coun Lowe was just 25 when she was elected; the first black woman to sit on Leeds Council. Her passion and commitment have earned her the respect of her colleagues and her constituents. There is no doubt about it, being a local councillor can be a thankless task, however committed you are to the cause. A tearful Coun Lowe says she will miss it so much, but she admitted: “I’ve got to have a life and I’m just so tired.”

She should be applauded for all she has done - she’ll be a hard act to follow.
